Flyover Expected This Afternoon — From AlertDC: “The US Military will be conducting a flyover in the National Capital Region, at the Arlington National Cemetery, on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 1:30 PM.”

Anti-Hate Rally — “A ‘Rally Against Hate’ is planned at a local church to respond to an act of vandalism and possible hate crime in the Yorktown neighborhood. It’s taking place at 11 a.m. at the Rock Spring Congregational Church this Friday, March 1.” [Instagram]

More on Food Hall Revamp — “While it claimed to host brands like Big Day Coffee, Great Lake Diner and Sammy’s Pickles, the stalls were run by the same operator, Chicago’s DMK Restaurants… The food hall is now under the management of Mothersauce Partners and will shutter Friday for a rebrand. When it reopens March 19 as Upside on Moore, it will feature an array of genuinely independent concepts.” [Washington Business Journal]

Speed Camera Fines May Rise — “Arlington County Board members in April will consider doubling the civil penalty for those who zip past its photo-monitoring equipment in highway work zones and school zones. The proposal would raise the fee from $50 to the state maximum of $100 starting July 1. And staff clearly doesn’t believe there is a chance of its being turned down, as the county manager’s proposed fiscal 2025 budget already includes the $450,000 extra county officials believe the change will bring in.” [Gazette Leader]

‘Vision Zero’ Reminder — From ACPD: “February’s Vision Zero safety theme is safe lane changes. Motorists are encouraged to take a refresh on setting your mirrors to cover your blind spots.” [Twitter]

More Buyers Than Sellers — “Home-sellers across the region may not yet have caught spring fever, but prospective buyers are out there waiting for them to come down with it. The total number of homes being listed on the market across the Washington region for the week ending Feb. 25 was 1,157… That’s up a modest 0.3 percent from a week before, a rate of growth that probably cooled expectations of an early spring sales season.” [Gazette Leader]

Vehicle Break-Ins — “4300 block of Langston Boulevard. At approximately 7:51 p.m. on February 27, police were dispatched to the report of a vehicle tampering. Upon arrival, it was determined a witness heard a car alarm and observed two unknown suspects running from the area. Responding officers located two victim vehicles with their rear passenger windows smashed.” [ACPD]

It’s Leap Day — “This February is a little longer than usual. It’s a leap year, and today — Thursday, Feb. 29 — is Leap Day. The calendar oddity means this year is actually 366 days long, instead of the regular 365. ” [CBS News]

It’s Thursday — Expect sunshine and a high of 46 degrees, accompanied by a northwest wind blowing at 10 to 15 mph with gusts reaching up to 24 mph. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low of 32 degrees and a northwest wind of 6 mph, which will later become light and variable. [Weather.gov]
