Libraries Are Busy Again — “The library director took something of a victory lap for her department and staff at an April 2 budget work session with County Board members. ‘We just feel like we’ve come roaring back,’ Diane Kresh said, pointing to the current 90,000 active library users representing ‘our highest, certainly in my tenure of 18 years.’ That’s a far cry from just a few years ago, when essentially half the library system’s public-facing staff departed, and 20,000 active users vanished.” [Gazette Leader]

Arlington’s Environmental Efforts — “Earth Day returns April 22. As per usual, 24 hours can only hint at the County’s year-round commitment to bettering our ecosystem and the quality of life for all creatures. Here are just a few Arlington milestones since last Earth Day…” [Arlington County]

Boeing Employee: No One at HQ — “The headquarters in Arlington is empty. Nobody lives there. It is an empty executive suite. The CEO lives in New Hampshire. The CFO lives in Connecticut. The head of HR lives in Orlando. We just instituted a policy that everyone has to come into work five days a week—except the executive council, which can use the private jets to travel to meetings. And that is the story: it is a company that is under caretakers. It is not under owners. And it is not under people who love airplanes.” [City Journal]

Expect Crowded Polling Places — “It may be a tight squeeze for some Arlington voters on Nov. 5. The county’s polling places ‘are at capacity,’ county elections director Gretchen Reinemeyer told County Board members during an April 2 budget work session. The county’s 54 voting precincts ‘cannot handle the influx of new voters,’ particularly in the rapidly urbanizing areas of the county, Reinemeyer said.” [Gazette Leader]

Local Sculpture Profiled — “Arlington county is home to more than 70 permanent public art installations, including Ridge, a dynamic structure by sculptor Foon Sham in Oakland Park along Wilson Boulevard in Virginia Square. Known for his large-scale organic works hewn from reclaimed materials, Sham draws inspiration from the natural formations and landmarks he has encountered while traveling the globe.” [Arlington Magazine]

Big Soccer Win for Wakefield — “The Wakefield Warriors recorded one of their biggest lopsided victories in recent  soccer seasons with an 8-0 blanking of the visiting Chantilly Chargers in a recent non-district boys high-school match. With the win, Wakefield improved its overall record to 3-1-1 and remained unbeaten in four straight games, following an opening-season loss.” [Gazette Leader]

It’s Friday — Expect a mostly sunny day with a high of about 54 degrees and a 20% chance of showers after 3pm. The northwest wind will range from 9 to 16 mph and may gust up to 25 mph. In the evening, the sky will be mostly clear, and the temperature will drop to around 37 degrees. The 11 to 14 mph northwest wind is expected to gust as high as 21 mph. [NWS]
