Man injured in scooter crash near Westover

A man has been hospitalized after crashing while riding a scooter this morning.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. on Washington Blvd at 19th Road N., near Westover. There was reportedly no vehicle involved — the man fell off the scooter while riding. It happened near an uneven section of road that is apparently being repaved.

“At approximately 10:32 a.m., police were dispatched to a crash with injuries at 19th Road N. and Washington Boulevard,” Arlington County police spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow. “The preliminary investigation indicates an adult male operating an electric scooter crashed resulting in injury. He was transported to an area hospital with injuries considered non-life threatening.”

“No other vehicles were involved in the crash,” Savage continued. “The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.”

Traffic camera footage shows several passersby, including a woman pushing a baby stroller, stopping to help the man as he was lying in the middle of the roadway. He remained down in the roadway until being loaded onto a stretcher and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

One lane of traffic was temporarily blocked by the Good Samaritans and by Arlington firefighters, after they arrived on scene.

Initial reports suggest the rider, said to be an older man, suffered orthopaedic injuries and possibly a head injury.
