Three suspects are facing multiple charges after a series of thefts led to a car chase on I-66.
The chase — involving a black BMW sport utility vehicle — happened during Thursday’s evening rush hour and ended in the eastbound lanes of I-66 near the exit to N. Ohio Street, in Arlington. It followed at least two separate thefts in Fairfax County, including at a Bath and Body Works store in Fair Oaks and a Kohl’s in Burke.
“Yesterday at approximately 5:59 p.m. officers responded to Bath and Body Works located at 13009 Route 50 in Fair Oaks for a larceny,” Fairfax County police told our sister site FFXnow. “Officers were given the suspects’ vehicle description and learned that they had committed a larceny at a different establishment earlier in the day.”
“Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle disregarded the officer’s signal and continued,” police added. “Virginia State Police eventually stopped the vehicle. The three suspects were arrested and charged with the following charges.”
A Virginia State Police spokeswoman referred ARLnow to FCPD for comment.
Charges against the suspects include grand larceny, petty larceny, felony speed to elude and felony aid to commit larceny.
The end of the chase was seen on a VDOT traffic camera and posted on social media by local public safety watcher Dave Statter.
Police chase on I-66: If you are stuck on I-66E in Arlington this is why. @VSPPIO picked up a chase from @FairfaxCountyPD that ended with a couple of crashes near the N. Ohio Street overpass. Not certain yet what the person was wanted for. Looks like police boxed it in. @VaDOT… pic.twitter.com/sswuQjsmLg
