ACPD: Man arrested after seriously injuring police officer along Columbia Pike

A Maryland man has been charged with seriously injuring an Arlington police officer.

The incident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of the Pike and S. Walter Reed Drive.

“At approximately 12:52 a.m. on May 26, an officer conducting parking enforcement in the area observed the male suspect causing a disturbance outside a business in the 2900 block of Columbia Pike by attempting to confront security personnel,” Arlington County police said in a press release. “The officer approached and issued commands to the suspect, who was noncompliant, and subsequently shoved the officer into a parked, unoccupied vehicle, causing property damage.”

“The suspect then assaulted the officer by striking him several times before fleeing the scene on foot with a female subject,” the press release continues. “A lookout for the suspect was broadcast and responding officers located and took him into custody at Columbia Pike and S. Glebe Road.”

The Arlington County Police Department is announcing the arrest of a suspect after he maliciously wounded an on-duty officer. Otis Brown, 29, of Waldorf, MD is charged with Assault on Police, Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Felony Destruction of Property. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

At approximately 12:52 a.m. on May 26, an officer conducting parking enforcement in the area observed the male suspect causing a disturbance outside a business in the 2900 block of Columbia Pike by attempting to confront security personnel. The officer sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries, was transported to an area hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect was medically evaluated at an area hospital before being transported to booking.

The Arlington County Police Department extends our appreciation to the bystanders who aided the officer following the assault and provided a description of the suspect, assisting in his quick identification and apprehension.
