Young Arlington readers can meet a Nats notable this weekend and earn tickets to games later this summer through free library programs.
Pitching strategist (and former reliever) Sean Doolittle will be signing autographs for children on Saturday morning after reading a story at Arlington Central Library. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the event lasts until 11 a.m.
“Join us in celebrating Summer Reading and the Washington Nationals!” an Arlington Public Library webpage says. “Go Nats!”
Catcher Riley Adams was originally scheduled to attend as well, but he no longer is.
The library system is also giving away two free vouchers to select Nationals games for readers of all ages who complete 21 days of reading this summer. The Summer Reading Challenge began earlier this week and runs through Sept. 1.
“You can’t read too little or too much on any given day, and you don’t have to read for 21 days in a row,” the library system said.
Participants must fill out a reading log and can backdate reading activity. Readers who finish the challenge also receive either a free book or a coupon for a book at any Friends of the Arlington Public Library book sale.
There is also a “super reader” bonus challenge, offering a free woodland stuffed animal or a free round of mini golf at Upton Hill Regional Park for participants who read for an additional 21 days this summer.
