County facilities closed, parking meters not enforced for Juneteenth

Tomorrow is Juneteenth and that means a number of closures in Arlington.

The federal holiday, on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. In addition to most federal offices being closed, Arlington County offices, libraries, courts and community centers will be closed Wednesday.

On the plus side, you will not have to feed parking meters tomorrow.

“Meters are not enforced on holidays,” notes Arlington County. “Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign.”

Trash, recycling and yard waste will be collected as usual, however. And the Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will be open with abbreviated hours, from 6 a.m.-2 p.m.

Metro, meanwhile, says it will operate trains and buses on a Saturday schedule.
