Some 3,000 homes and businesses were reported to be without power this afternoon in northern Arlington and a small portion of McLean.
The outage follows reports of the sounds of possible transformer explosions in the area of Nelly Custis Drive and N. Lincoln Street in Cherrydale.
Dominion preliminarily lists the cause as “pending investigation” and an estimated restoration time of between 4-7 p.m. The power company’s map initially showed the outage extending from Virginia Square to the south to Chain Bridge Forest in the north, roughly centered around Military Road.
As of 1:45 p.m., the outage was smaller, centered around the Chain Bridge Forest neighborhood and along N. Glebe Road, affecting some 1,200 homes.
Today’s outage follows another, smaller outage Wednesday night in the Rock Spring neighborhood of northern Arlington. That outage was also caused by an apparent transformer failure.
Small power outage just north of Washington Golf and Country Club, possibly due to a blown transformer. About 500 homes in the dark, per Dominion's map. pic.twitter.com/gpeHmWP8sw
