ACPD: Man breaks into home, demands resident’s car after showing military ID

A Woodbridge man is facing multiple charges after an alleged home break-in and series of attempted vehicle break-ins.

The unusual incident started Wednesday morning just before 10 a.m., in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood.

A man showing signs of being emotionally disturbed was walking through the neighborhood and making remarks to residents about bombs, according to scanner traffic. He might have been spotted earlier in the morning walking along the railroad tracks near Crystal City.

Arlington County police say the man broke into a home on the 2900 block of S. Grant Street and approached a woman inside, then “demanded her vehicle and displayed a military identification.”

“The victim refused and the suspect subsequently exited the home and proceeded to try the door handles of three unoccupied, parked vehicles in the are,” said an ACPD crime report. “The suspect reportedly told the owner of one of the vehicles he needed the vehicle for military business. Responding officers located the suspect in the area and took him into custody.”

The suspect, identified as a 24-year-old Woodbridge resident, “was arrested and charged with Burglary, Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer (x2), Vehicle Tampering (x3) and Attempted Robbery,” police said, noting that he was held without bond.
