Horn honk foils armed, would-be carjacker

A gun-toting man who tried to carjack someone in the Buckingham neighborhood was scared off by the car’s horn.

That’s according to the latest Arlington County Police Department crime report.

The alleged incident happened around 11:15 p.m. this past Saturday on the 400 block of N. Thomas Street.

“The male victim was in his parked vehicle when he observed the male suspect approach his vehicle, brandish a firearm and demand the victim’s vehicle,” said ACPD. “The victim honked his horn, and the suspect subsequently fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported.”

Arlington has seen fewer carjackings this spring and summer, though one was reported at a rental car lot in the Crystal City area earlier this month.

The suspect in the latest attempted carjacking remains at large, according to the crime report.

“The investigation is ongoing,” police said.
