NEW: Man armed with rifle robbed people of watches in Pentagon City

Arlington County police are investigating a pair of armed robberies at the Pentagon City mall.

The first robbery happened around 3:45 p.m. in the mall’s parking garage. Initial reports suggest that the man was armed with a short barrel rifle and robbed the victim of a watch.

The man was then seen walking through the top floor of the mall, according to scanner traffic.

A second victim also was reportedly robbed of a watch by the same suspect, who pulled the rifle out of a backpack. Numerous police units responded to the mall but could not locate the suspect.

“At approximately 3:51 p.m. on August 28, police were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery in the 1100 block of S. Hayes Street,” ACPD spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow. “The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect approached two victims, brandished a firearm and stole jewelry. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. The suspect is described as a Black male with a skinny build, 6’2” – 6’4” tall wearing a white shirt, black jogger pants and carrying a black backpack. Police remain on scene investigating.”
