Both Arlington Democrats and the Arlington GOP plan to have a presence at the Hispanic Heritage Community Festival this weekend.

Members of the Trump campaign, which has been pushing for voter turnout in Northern Virginia, also reportedly plan to attend.

“The Trump Campaign has asked Arlington Republicans to join them at the ASHPA Hispanic Heritage [3rd] Annual Community Festival this Saturday,” the local GOP said in an email seeking volunteers for the event.

The email continues:

Donald Trump is closing the gap among Hispanic and Latino voters in 2024.

While Hispanic and Latino voters supported Joe Biden in 2020 by a 3-to-1 or 2-to-1 margin in states and communities analyzed in this data, the latest polls show Trump has closed the gap to just 6 percentage points against Kamala Harris.

With Juan Carlos Fierro and Jerry Torres on the ballot in Arlington, the opportunity has never been greater to take our message to this important community.

Nationwide, Kamala Harris is ahead with Latino voters. A recent Reuters poll found her leading 49% to 36%, while NBC News reported an even more commanding lead of 59% to 32%.

Local Democrats expressed confidence in support for the Harris-Walz ticket among local Hispanic communities.

“From establishing a Latino Caucus to communicating in Spanish year-round to hosting multiple Latino organizing events across the county, Arlington Democrats have been putting in the work year after year to meet Latinos where they are and earn their vote,” Arlington Democrats Chair Steve Baker told ARLnow.

“As a result, we’re seeing a lot of enthusiasm on the ground, and we’re confident Latino voters will once again support Democrats up and down the ballot as the only party fighting to support hardworking Virginia families.”

Several recent polls predict a narrow victory for Harris in Virginia, but a few favor Trump.

Now in its third year, the Hispanic Heritage Community Festival will take place from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday at Tyrol Hill Park (5101 7th Road S.) in the Arlington Mill neighborhood, north of Columbia Pike.

In addition to music and food, the event offers an opportunity for community members to meet local officials and county staff, as well as officers and deputies from the Arlington County Police Department and Arlington County Sheriff’s Office.

It is one of several Arlington events scheduled for National Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
