W-L routs Falls Church in football, remains undefeated at 5-0

The Washington-Liberty Generals improved to 5-0 with a 49-14 road win over the Falls Church Jaguars in a Sept. 27 non-district high-school football game.

The defending Liberty District champion Generals also started the season 5-0 last fall. The Generals have scored 40 points or more in each victory.

Against winless Falls Church (0-5), Washington-Liberty gained a single-game season-high 490 total yards, including 332 through the air. Two W-L quarterbacks combined for five touchdown passes.

Senior starter Matthew Abramson was 12 of 14 passing for 208 yards and threw three touchdown passes and Jackson Colgan 5 of 7 for 124 and a TD. David Toepel caught five passes for 111 yards, Jon Malatesta caught four for 88 and three scores, Trevor Fullen four for 68 and a TD, and Zach Meehan had two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown.

On the ground for the Generals, Brayden Black was the leading rusher with 97 yards on nine carries. Ben Hughes rushed for 18 yards and Abramson for 10.

Felipe Dieguez booted seven extra points. Malatesta had a 40-yard kickoff return.

On defense for Washington-Liberty, Toepel had two interceptions and Anthony Louis one. Hughes had two tackles for losses and Ian Crowley one, and had six combined tackles overall.
