Arlington offices open, Falls Church’s closed for upcoming holiday

Arlington County government offices will be open but those in Falls Church, along with the state and federal governments, will be closed this Monday, Oct. 14.

The federal and state governments observe the day as Columbus Day. The state government also marks it as Yorktown Victory Day.

The Arlington County government uses the state designation of Columbus Day, but does not close for the day. It is the only one of the 11 statutory federal holidays the county government does not follow.

Arlington students will have the day off, with school-system staff participating in professional-learning events.

Falls Church marks the day as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, with government offices closed. The city’s school system, which marks the day both as Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day, will be closed.

Local courts, which follow the state-government schedule, will be closed.

Metrorail service will run on a Saturday schedule, with Metrobus service on a modified weekend schedule.
