Suspect in Lee-Harrison store burglary arrested blocks from crime scene

An arrest has been made in connection to the after-hours theft of more than 25 cellphones from a store in the Lee-Harrison Shopping Center.

A 25-year-old suspect was apprehended yesterday (Tuesday) as police executed a search warrant, police said. It happened at a house on N. Florida Street, in the Yorktown neighborhood, less than half a mile from the electronics store he is accused of burglarizing earlier this month, a witness told ARLnow.

On Oct. 1, an employee at Cell Depot in the Lee-Harrison Shopping Center reported that someone had shattered the glass door of the business and entered the store around 1:30 a.m., gathering devices before fleeing the scene.

The incident was captured by the store’s surveillance cameras, and the store owner claimed to have tracked the suspect to a nearby residence. Further investigation allowed law enforcement to secure a search warrant for the suspect’s residence, according to police.

The investigation also uncovered evidence that the suspect fraudulently used the credit cards of a “known victim” and stole jewelry, police said.

The suspect faces nine charges in all, including three counts of grand larceny and two counts of larceny with intent to sell. He was scheduled to appear in Arlington County Circuit Court earlier this morning, according to court records.
