A man was critically injured in a crash on I-395 over the weekend.
The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday on I-395 near Pentagon City and shut down all northbound lanes of the highway for around 45 minutes.
Video of the wreck, posted on social media by local public safety watcher Dave Statter, shows a car going significantly faster than other traffic before spinning out of control and slamming into the rear of another vehicle.
Firefighters used heavy equipment to remove an unconscious patient — reportedly a man in his mid-40s — trapped in one of the vehicles. That patient, believed to be the driver of the striking vehicle, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken via ambulance to a local trauma center.
A second patient, in the other vehicle, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was also hospitalized, according to the Arlington County Fire Department.
Virginia State Police spokesman Matthew Demlein confirmed to ARLnow that VSP is investigating the crash but was unable to provide additional information as of publication time.
