Arlington trash pickup pushed back for Christmas and New Year’s

Curbside waste collection will not be happening on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day in Arlington, but Christmas tree pickup should be right on time.

With both holidays falling on Wednesdays this year, Wednesday routes collecting trash, recycling and organics will be pushed back to Thursday for the next two weeks. Thursday routes will take place on Friday and Friday routes will happen on Saturday.

Curbside collection on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 will also be pushed back a day in Falls Church.

After the holidays, Christmas tree collection takes place in Arlington between Monday, Jan. 6 and Friday, Jan. 17. Crews will collect trees that have been stripped of all decorations, nails and stands for conversion into mulch and compost.

Trees should be out on the curb no later than 6 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. Those over 8 feet long should be “dismantled,” and a county bulletin reminds residents not to place trees in plastic bags, which can’t be composted.

People in multifamily buildings should drop off their trees at the Solid Waste Bureau, located at 4300 29th Street S.

Christmas tree in Falls Church will be picked up in the first two collections of the new year.
