A store employee is facing serious charges after police say he confronted shoplifting suspects with a knife.
The incident happened last Thursday afternoon at the 7-Eleven store at 201 S. Glebe Road, near Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
The employee tried to stab a suspect who stole beer and items from the store and also slashed the tires of the suspect’s car, according to scanner traffic and an Arlington County Police Department crime report (below).
The employee and the suspect are now both facing multiple charges.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2024-12190141/2024-12190173, 200 block of S. Glebe Road. At approximately 3:31 p.m. on December 19, police were dispatched to the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined Suspects One and Two allegedly entered the business during which Suspect Two collected merchandise. Suspect One then exited the store followed by Suspect Two, who did not pay for the merchandise. As the suspects walked to their vehicle an employee confronted them outside the business and a struggle ensued over the merchandise. The employee brandished a knife and attempted to strike Suspect One. The employee also caused damage to the suspect’s vehicle with the knife. The two suspects then fled the scene on foot but were subsequently located in the area by responding officers and taken into custody. The employee remained on scene and was also taken into custody. Suspect One and the employee sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention. [The employee], 24, of Alexandria, Va. was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding and Destruction of Property. During the course of the investigation, suspected narcotics were recovered from Suspect Two, who also provided officers with false personal identification information. [The suspect], 19, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Shoplifting, Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance and Giving False Identity to a Law Enforcement Officer. Suspect One was determined to be wanted by a neighboring jurisdiction and was served with the outstanding warrants.
Also in a recent ACPD crime report, a 25-year-old Arlington man was arrested Saturday on drug and weapons charges after an officer recognized him as wanted on an outstanding warrant for eluding police.
NARCOTICS VIOLATION, 2024-12210062, 13th Street S. at S. Scott Street. At approximately 8:49 a.m. on December 21, an officer observed a wanted subject and took him into custody as he entered a vehicle. During an inventory search of the vehicle prior to towing, a firearm with an altered serial number and a distribution amount of marijuana were recovered. [The suspect], 25, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Firearm while in Possession of Narcotics and Altering the Serial Number of a Firearm. He was also served with an outstanding warrant for Eluding and was held without bond.

Additionally, the past two Arlington crime reports detail a pair of assaults on police that stemmed from officers attempting to stop young female suspects for fare evasion in Pentagon City.
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2024-12190171, 1200 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 5:59 p.m. on December 19, an officer working a crime prevention detail at the Pentagon City Metro Station stopped the female suspect for fare evasion. The suspect began acting disorderly and was noncompliant with the officer’s commands. The officer then detained the suspect during which she resisted and kicked at officers. No injuries were reported. [The suspect], 21, of Washington, D.C. was arrested and charged with Assault on Police, Obstruction of Justice and Fare Evasion.
ASSAULT ON POLICE, 2024-12210161, 1200 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 7:10 p.m. on December 21, an officer working a crime prevention detail at the Pentagon City Metro Station stopped two juvenile female suspects for fare evasion. Upon doing so, Suspect One struck the officer and both suspects were subsequently taken into custody with the assistance of additional responding officers. No injuries were reported. Petitions were obtained for juvenile Suspect One for Assault on Police and Fare Evasion. Juvenile Suspect Two was charged with Fare Evasion and released on a summons.
