A local stretch of GW Parkway will be closed to northbound traffic on two Saturdays this month.
Northbound lanes between Spout Run Parkway and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) will be closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow and Jan. 11.
Traffic will be detoured west to N. Glebe Road before re-entering the Parkway via Chain Bridge Road. Part of that stretch of Glebe is currently closed due to emergency water main repairs.
Additionally, only one southbound lane of the Pawkway will stay open.
The closures will allow crews to complete work at outfalls and drainage installation, the National Park Service said in a press release.
This is part of a larger rehabilitation project on GW Parkway that began construction in April 2023. Weekend closures have come off and on, as the $161 million undertaking has sought to “improve the driving experience, safety and water drainage while retaining and reviving the historic beauty and significance of the parkway.”
The project is expected to wrap up in late 2025, according to its webpage.
