Charges are expected to be filed after yesterday’s fatal, high-speed crash at along Wilson Blvd.
Police say charges are pending against one of the drivers, who was seriously injured. The deceased, meanwhile, has been identified as a 32-year-old woman: Xuewei He of McLean.
The driver of the pickup truck that struck He’s vehicle at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and N. Vermont Street is a 71-year-old man, who remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, police said. His name has not yet been released
“Charges are pending against the pickup driver pending additional processing of evidence in consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office,” Arlington County police said in a press release.
No other significant injuries were reported.
Shortly before the crash, officers spotted a pickup truck driving “at a high rate of speed into the wrong lanes of travel” at the intersection of Wilson Blvd and N. George Mason Drive, the press release says. Video of that incident was posted on social media by local public safety watcher Dave Statter.

An officer turned around to follow the vehicle but, in accordance with department policy, did not initiate a pursuit. Soon thereafter the pickup truck slamming into He’s white sedan, sending both skidding into two other cars before coming to a stop at the intersection of Wilson and N. Glebe Road in Ballston.
It took at least 15-20 seconds before the first police vehicle reached the crash scene, according to traffic camera video.
The truck also struck and damaged a vehicle at the N. George Mason Drive intersection, and two vehicles collided at Wilson Blvd and N. Wakefield Street trying to avoid the truck, according to police.

The Arlington County Police Department continues to investigate yesterday’s fatal vehicle crash along Wilson Boulevard.
The deceased has been identified as Xuewei He, 32, of McLean, VA.
The preliminary investigation indicates that in addition to the fatal crash, the driver of the pickup truck struck a vehicle at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and N. George Mason Drive and struck a second vehicle traveling eastbound on Wilson Boulevard. Additionally, two vehicles collided at Wilson Boulevard at N. Wakefield Street while attempting to avoid the pickup truck. No injuries were reported as a result of these crashes.
Officers traveling westbound on Wilson Boulevard were stopped at the traffic light at N. George Mason Drive when the pickup truck proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed into the wrong lanes of travel. The officers made a u-turn and began driving on eastbound Wilson Boulevard to further investigate. The fatal crash occurred prior to the officers arriving in the area. In accordance with department policy, the officers were not in pursuit of the vehicle.
Charges are pending against the pickup driver and he remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
