Memorial service info

Walter Saxman, 95, passed away peacefully in Loudoun County, VA, on January 17, 2025. Born on March 13, 1929, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Harry and Kathryn Saxman, and was last of their fourteen children to pass away. Walter’s life was one of resilience, dedication, and love. A proud graduate of Latrobe High School in 1948, he served his country with honor during the Korean War, a chapter that shaped the man he became. After returning home, he was the first in his family to pursue higher education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University in California, PA, and a Master’s Degree from American University in Washington, D.C.

Walter’s career as an Industrial Arts teacher at Yorktown High School in Arlington, VA, was nothing short of impactful. He was not only a dedicated educator but a mentor who went above and beyond for his students. Through his many afterschool programs, which included auto mechanics and Drivers Education, Walter shaped the lives of countless young people, always with a patient ear and a heart full of encouragement.

Outside of the classroom, Walter’s true joy was his 200-acre farm in Pennsylvania, a place that became a sanctuary for family and friends. With horses, tractors, and a lake he built himself, it was a place where memories were made—whether it was swimming, fishing, hunting, or simply gathering for lively card games filled with laughter. Walter’s spirit was one of generosity and warmth, always creating a space for those he loved to come together and share in life’s simple pleasures.

In 1949, Walter married Alice Emery (deceased), and together they raised two daughters, Georganna (Schell) and Dawn Ann Saxman (deceased). Walter’s legacy lives on through his four grandchildren, Marty Schell, Anne Schell, Lance Jenkinson, and Paul Jenkinson (deceased), and seven great grandchildren, Darwin, Emery, Benjamin, Theodore, Madeleine , Ethan, and Roman, each of whom carries forward his love, his strength, and his zest for life. Walter’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will endure for generations.

For 30 years, Walt shared a loving relationship with Robbie Cook. Their partnership was built on respect, and support. They faced life’s challenges and adventures together. Throughout the years, their connection remained a constant source of happiness for Walter. The family would like to thank Robbie Cook and her family for their support during his life, illness, and death.
