Wakefield girls lacrosse team begins season with a road victory

After just one match, the Wakefield Warriors already are ahead of last season’s results — when the girls high-school lacrosse team finished without a victory.

Wakefield opened its 2025 spring campaign with an 11-6 road win over the Jackson-Reed Tigers in non-district action.

Leading Wakefield was freshman Emily Schimmel with seven goals and one assist. Sophomore Natalie Bryant added two goals and goalie Riley Smith made some dozen saves.

Other contributing players for Wakefield were defenders Julie Dziecichowicz and Charlize Lauritzen Zapata on defense. Camille Martson won a number of draw controls and scored a goal. Juliana Combs also scored for Wakefield, and Anna Ford controlled the ball on offense and played strong defense.

Bianca Roman, Rory Crider, Evelyn Aguilar, Jaya Spangler and Kayla Johnson were additional contributors.

Wakefield will have a chance to win its next three matches — all at home — against Lewis, Justice and Mount Vernon in non-district contests.

Wakefield opens its Liberty District schedule on the road against the Herndon Hornets on Friday, April 4.
