A number of members of the Yorktown High School girls swimming and diving team recently were rewarded as Class 6 all-state selections from their performances during the 2024-25 season.
They helped Yorktown win a third straight Virginia High School League state championship this past season.
Individual Yorktown swimmers selected all-state were senior Nora Sherman; juniors Sophie Fredericks and Mary Hecmanczuk; sophomore Lila Sherman; and freshman Cory McKenzie.
Fredericks was honored for her top finishes in the butterfly and backstroke races, McKenzie in the back, Hecmanczuk in the 50 free, Nora Sherman in the individual medley and Lila Sherman in the 200 free.
Yorktown’s second-place 200 medley relay and winning 200 freestyle relay each also were all-state choices.
The medley foursome was Fredericks, McKenzie, senior Emme Cobb and junior Emory Haynes. The 200 free consisted of Hecmanczuk, Fredericks, McKenzie and Nora Sherman.
The one Yorktown diver chosen all-state was freshman Cecilia Yen. She finished third in the state meet.
In addition to winning the state championships, the Yorktown girls also won Liberty District and 6D North Region titles this past season.
No other swimmers or divers from any Arlington public-school girls or boys teams were chosen all-state.
