Add another type of gold medal to Torri Huske’s swimming accomplishments.
The Arlington resident and 2021 Yorktown High School graduate recently won her initial individual first-place medal in the NCAA women’s national championships in this year’s Division I meet.
Swimming for Stanford University, the junior won that gold by finishing first in the 200 individual-medley race in 1:49.87. She placed second in two other races (100 butterfly and 100 freestyle) at the NCAAs and swam on the runner-up 200 medley relay and third-place 200 free relay.
Huske, a product-design major, was Stanford’s top point-scorer in the championships, helping the squad finish second to the University of Virginia in the team standings.
In finishing second, Stanford upset the University of Texas, which was seeded significantly higher.
The NCAA gold adds to Huske’s list of winning individual golds in the Summer Olympics, World Championships, various other college meets and her scads of first-places in high-school and club-meet competitions.
At Yorktown, Huske helped the girls team win multiple postseason championships, including a state title. She never lost an individual high-school race in her four seasons and smashed many team and meet records.
In the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, Huske won five medals — three golds and two silvers. Her individual Olympic gold came in the 100 fly. Huske earned an Olympic silver medal for finishing second in the 100 free. Her other medals came when she was a member of first- and second-place relays.
At the 2022 Fina World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, Huske won three gold medals. Previously, she won gold medals at the Junior World Championships.
The recently-concluded 2025 General Assembly session included a legislative salute to Huske for her performance during the Summer Olympics.
