The regular season is complete and proved a big success for the Marymount University Saints women’s lacrosse team.
Marymount concluded that campaign with a 15-2 overall record, a first-place 5-0 finish in the Atlantic East Conference and a 10-match winning streak.
Next, the Division III Saints of Arlington will be the top seed in the conference tournament, hoping to win that title after a runner-up finish last spring. The Saints have yet to win the conference tourney.
Marymount capped the regular season with a home conference victory over Gwynedd Mercy University at Long Bridge Park.
In recent play, Saints’ senior goalie Hannah Smith was chosen as the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week. Smith received the honor for getting several wins in goal, allowing just nine goals in those contests while notching 21 saves and gathered six ground balls.
Smith improved her record to 12-1 in the net for the Saints. Earlier this season, she earned her 400th career save.
Also for Marymount, senior Taylor Chepren was singled out by the league for amassing 12 total points on nine assists and a trio of goals and causing a pair of turnovers in recent action.
Chepren is one of Marymount’s top scorers, but there are many others. Tess Valentino leads the team in goals scored, with Riley Love the leader in assists.
Love is Marymount’s all-time leader in points scored.
Bailey Gehler, Arayla Garcia, Ella Baker, Natalia Ortiz, Jillian Blair, Kaylee Heath and Brooke Bretney each have scored 10 or more goals this season.
Abby Dunn is the leader in ground balls gathered and Garcia is first in draw controls, a statistic in which she is the program’s all-time leader.
