Chain Bridge Road closed due to downed wires

Update at 12:10 a.m. — The roadway is back open, according to an Arlington Alert message.

Extensive utility work is underway near Chain Bridge, closing a busy commuter route.

Chain Bridge Road, in Arlington’s northernmost reaches, has been closed since this morning after reports of downed wires in the roadway.

The road, which connects N. Glebe Road and points northwest in McLean, including a GW Parkway ramp, remains blocked off as of 3:30 p.m. by cones and utility trucks.

In addition to being a commuter route, Chain Bridge Road is home to some of Arlington’s priciest real estate, along the so-called “Gold Coast” of Northern Virginia. It was recently named the “most coveted address” in Virginia.
