Arlington ‘spraygrounds’ reopen for the season this weekend

With summer on the horizon, “spraygrounds” across Arlington are set to reopen tomorrow (Saturday).

Arlington is home to seven parks with splashing and water features. These will reopen from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. this Memorial Day weekend, with the exception of Penrose Square, which is closed for repairs.

Sprayground season lasts until Labor Day weekend. Locations are listed below.

Spraygrounds

  • Drew Park, 3514 22nd Street S. (Green Valley)
  • Hayes Park, 1516 N. Lincoln Street (Virginia Square)
  • Lyon Village Park, 1800 N. Highland Street  (Lyon Village)
  • Virginia Highlands Park, 1600 S. Hayes Street (Pentagon City)

Interactive water features

  • Long Bridge Park, 475 Long Bridge Drive (Crystal City)
  • Mosaic Park,  544 N. Pollard Street (Ballston)
  • Penrose Square (closed for repairs) 2597 Columbia Pike (Penrose)

For those seeking some aquatic recreation, there are some county rules to remember.

Running and horseplay are prohibited, water shoes are highly recommended, and pets, food and drink are not allowed.

Users should also refrain from drinking the water, and diaper-age kids should wear a swim diaper.
