NEW: Police investigating vehicle break-ins at Arlington country club

Someone broke into nearly a half dozen cars parked at an exclusive Arlington country club in the middle of the day.

That’s according to scanner traffic and the latest Arlington County Police Department crime report.

The break-ins happened over the course of about 10 minutes around lunchtime Thursday. A man in a minivan pulled into the parking lot of the tennis center at Washington Golf and Country Club and started smashing car windows and stealing items inside, according to reports.

“Between approximately 12:43 p.m. and 12:53 p.m., the male suspect shattered the windows of five parked, unoccupied vehicles in the area and stole electronics, clothing items and personal items before fleeing the scene,” the crime report says. Police are trying to track down the suspect and his vehicle, which might have had Maryland tags.

“The investigation is ongoing,” ACPD says.

Washington Golf and Country Club, located on the 3000 block of N. Glebe Road, has a multi-year wait list for membership and a six-figure initiation fee. The club made headlines last year for a mini-controversy over the cost of renovations to a men’s-only lounge.
