Two killed after car strikes overpass on GW Parkway

Two people were killed yesterday (Sunday) in a one-car crash on GW Parkway.

Shortly after 2 p.m., a vehicle left the roadway and struck the overpass at the ramp from southbound Washington Blvd to southbound GW Parkway, according to the U.S. Park Police.

Photos of the scene published by WJLA show a four-door vehicle with heavy front-end damage. Debris can be seen spread across the two-lane road, which is on Columbia Island.

A witness said they saw the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction before the crash, DC News Now reported.

The vehicle’s occupants, a man and a woman, were pinned in the vehicle before being pronounced dead at the scene, according to scanner traffic. They have not been publicly identified.

Arlington first responders turned the scene over to the U.S. Park Police just before 2:45 p.m. for a crash investigation, according to scanner traffic.
