‘Blocktoberfest’ street festival coming to Clarendon this weekend

Bavarian snacks, live music and yard games are all planned this weekend at a new “Blocktoberfest” street festival hosted by the Clarendon Ballroom.

The event takes place this Saturday between O’Sullivan’s Irish Pub and the Liberty Tavern, at Wilson Blvd and N. Irving Street. The Clarendon Ballroom promises “a full-scale street festival packed with Bavarian cheer, music, and beer garden vibes.”

Festivities start at 2 p.m.

  • The festival will include DJs and live music, pretzels and bratwurst, and souvenir steins. It’ll also feature various “yard games, contests, raffles, and giveaways” and rides on the mechanical bull from Boe, Clarendon’s new country-themed bar.
  • Live entertainment and games will continue at a 9 p.m. afterparty with seasonal beers, Bavarian appetizers and fall-inspired cocktails like spiced sangria and a “fiery” apple mule.
  • General admission tickets are free and available on Eventbrite, while a $12 “VIP Access” option will guarantee entry, a pretzel and one house shooter or beer.

Rooftop ‘Bierdeck’ closing soon

  • The seasonal “Bierdeck” theme on the Clarendon Ballroom’s renovated rooftop closes after Saturday.
  • This season’s pop-up menu offers items like schnitzel sliders, bratwurst dogs and pretzel-crusted pizza, as well as autumnal beers from Virginia Beer Co. and Atlas Brew Works.
  • Other libations include spiked cider, hot toddies, a “maple bourbon smash” and caramel apple espresso martinis.

More fall events this weekend

  • Elsewhere in Arlington, PikeFest, a new fall festival, will provide food and drink, live music and family-friendly activities from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Penrose Square.
  • On Sunday, florist Azi Flowers will host an Autumn Festival with watercolor painting, coffee tasting and floral arranging lessons from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 3035 Columbia Pike.
