Someone who was helping a motorist change a tire on the side of I-395 in Arlington was struck and seriously injured by a passing driver.
The incident happened early Friday morning (Oct. 17), around 12:45 a.m., near the Pentagon and the Route 1 interchange.
A Virginia State Police spokesman tells ARLnow that the striking driver pulled over and remained on scene. The person who was struck suffered “serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.”
“Charges are pending consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office,” said VSP’s Matthew Demlein.
Initial reports from that night suggest that the victim was a mechanic and their sleeping six year old son was in a car nearby at the time they were struck.
NEW: A pedestrian was struck a short time ago on I-395N across from the Pentagon before Route 1/110. It appears the person was with a broken down car on the right shoulder. The car that hit them pulled over further north on I-395, just past Route 1/110. @arlnow @charlienbc… pic.twitter.com/Cq1S8VX4gH
