In expectation of large crowds in the run-up to Thanksgiving, a pair of road closures will be in effect in Clarendon tonight (Wednesday).
The Arlington County Police Department is closing off Wilson Blvd and Clarendon Blvd between N. Highland Street and Washington Blvd “to accommodate the expected increase in nightlife activity.”
The closures on the popular stretch near the neighborhood’s Metro station, home to spots like Spider Kelly’s, Clarendon Ballroom and Bar Bao, go into effect at 10 p.m.
“Electronic message boards are currently in place to alert motorists of the upcoming closures, and drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes if traveling in the area,” ACPD said in a press release.
Street parking will be restricted beginning at 8 p.m., but rideshare pick-ups and drop-offs will be permitted along Washington Blvd throughout the night.
Known to some as “Blackout Wednesday” or “Drinksgiving,” the night before Thanksgiving has become something of an unofficial holiday, especially among young professionals.
Last year, an informal ARLnow poll found that 16% of respondents planned to go out on Thanksgiving Eve.
