Where to donate in Arlington for Giving Tuesday tomorrow

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, an international day of donations that many nonprofits rely on for an end-of-year fundraising bump.

Arlington County is home to numerous nonprofits that depend on local residents’ donations, including over 200 community organizations listed on a county directory. Below is a selection of some noteworthy groups — selected based on a recent ARLnow Readers’ Choice poll and other sources — to consider contributing to this year.

Arlington Food Assistance Center

Arlington’s largest food bank provides free, fresh groceries to thousands of Arlington County residents every week. It has seen increasing need for years, a trend that CEO Charlie Meng expects to continue.

Arlington Free Clinic

This nonprofit provides medical care to over 1,600 uninsured Arlington residents. CEO Lesley Daigle has warned of an expected surge in need due to cuts to federal funding and tighter eligibility requirements.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington

Pet adoption and foster services, veterinary care and wildlife rescue efforts are just some of the many programs the AWLA operates in Arlington, in addition to advocating against animal cruelty in all its forms.

Aspire! Afterschool Learning

This organization provides afterschool and summer programs for kids in third through eighth grade, seeking to strengthen literacy, math and other skills among historically underserved students.

Bridges to Independence

This nonprofit runs a homeless shelter and seeks to offer pathways out of homelessness. It also has a community services center and runs workforce development and youth development programs.

Doorways

This service provider for survivors of abuse offers emergency shelter and runs a 24-hour hotline for domestic and sexual violence.

EcoAction Arlington

Expanding Arlington’s tree canopy is a core goal of this organization, which will be out knocking on doors tomorrow with the goal of raising $3,000.
