The fireworks display will culminate six nights of projections on the Washington Monument that have sought to turn the historic structure into “the world’s tallest birthday candle.”
The pyrotechnics, which follow another display at midnight on New Year’s Eve, will begin at 7:55 p.m.

Since Dec. 31, the 141-year-old, 555-foot obelisk honoring George Washington has lit up with “an immersive, luminous canvas that narrates our Nation’s discovery, expansion, independence, and vision for the future.”
“This Washington Monument illumination is the opening signature moment of a year-long series of marquee national events celebrating the triumph of the American spirit,” Freedom 250, a project honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary, wrote.
