Local software engineer helps shoppers avoid online scams with new AI powered tool

Ever ask yourself “are these reviews too good to be true”?

Online shopping is convenient but not always transparent, honest, or safe. From fake storefronts to manipulated reviews, many shoppers don’t realize something is wrong until after they have already made a purchase.

This growing problem inspired Daniel Fishman, a NoVa local, to build a simple tool that helps people evaluate online stores and products before they add to cart.

Meet ShopSmart-AI

ShopSmart-AI is a Chrome extension designed to help online shoppers make more informed decisions before they check out. It is free with optional paid plans. It doesn’t promote products, sell user data, or tell shoppers what to do. It simply provides useful insights in a matter of seconds.

With one click, the software:

    • Analyzes the product page for red flags
    • Searches the web for potential quality, trust, and credibility issues
    • Identifies suspicious review patterns
    • Summarizes findings with a simple rating

“I originally built it for myself,” Daniel says. “I was tired of sifting through dozens of retailers, fake reviews, and doing endless research. I wanted something that gave me confidence in my purchase in a fast, simple, and intuitive way.”

A History of Passion Projects

ShopSmart-AI is one of two projects (so far) in the Happy Hobbies portfolio.

Daniel is also the creator of WordPopz, an iOS word game that blends classic puzzles with fast-paced, modern gameplay.

“I had a vision for a word game. I’ve always wanted to try my hand in mobile game development and I couldn’t find an existing game that matched my mental model, so I built it!”

WordPopz is available on the App Store
