Starbucks exits Pentagon City mall, closing two locations

Starbucks no longer has a presence at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City after shuttering two kiosks.

Starbucks spots in the mall’s Macy’s and food court have closed. The food court location is vacant, while the other has signage indicating that the cafe is gone and the area is “temporarily closed for construction.”

A Starbucks spokesperson told ARLnow the food court location was closed since late December.

“As part of Starbucks standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio,” the spokesperson said. “After careful consideration, we made the decision to close our store at 1100 South Hayes St.”

The mall’s owner, Simon, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the closures.

Starbucks also closed two locations in Ballston in September 2025 as part of a nationwide contraction. There are still 21 other Starbucks cafes in Arlington.

The coffeehouse chain is in the midst of a recovery plan that includes a revamped rewards program launching next month, the removal of underperforming menu items and the expected introduction of new offerings with a focus on attracting more afternoon customers.

In late January, Starbucks reported sales growth in existing U.S. stores in the first quarter of the fiscal year. The chain aims to open a net 400 new coffee shops by the 2028 fiscal year.
