An Alexandria man has died after a motorcycle crash on I-395 in Arlington.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday in the southbound HOV lanes near the Pentagon.
“A motorcycle, driven by William D. Whiteside, 61, of Alexandria, Va., collided with one of the Express Lane gates, causing a crash,” a Virginia State Police spokesman tells ARLnow. “Whiteside suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to those injuries.”
CPR was performed on scene by state police and then by arriving Arlington medics, according to initial reports.
It’s unclear whether another vehicle was involved in the crash. The lanes were closed for an extended period of time Monday evening while VSP documented the scene as part of a crash investigation.
“The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation at this time,” state police said Tuesday afternoon.
