Police arrested a teenager yesterday (Monday) after he reportedly brandished a gun at two victims walking on the W&OD Trail.
The two female victims were out on the trail near Glencarlyn Park around 7:15 p.m. when they encountered the suspect. According to scanner chatter, he began yelling and making threats, then pulled out a gun and cocked it.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, and no injuries were reported, the Arlington County Police Department said in a preliminary crime report.
“A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect on the trail wearing a mask and took him into custody,” police said.
The suspect was allegedly carrying a firearm with an altered serial number. More from the crime report, below.
Washington and Old Dominion Trail near S. Park Drive at S. Aberdeen Street. At approximately 7:17 p.m. on April 13, police were dispatched to the report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, it was determined the two female victims were walking on the trail when they observed the juvenile male suspect in his teens. The suspect then allegedly brandished a firearm at the victims before fleeing the scene on foot. No injuries were reported. A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect on the trail wearing a mask and took him into custody. During the course of the investigation, a firearm with an altered serial number was recovered from the suspect. Petitions for the juvenile male suspect were sought for Brandishing (x2), Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Firearm by a Juvenile, Altering the Serial Number of a Firearm and Wearing a Mask in a Public Place.
