‘Wonder Years’ actress and mathematician holding book reading for kids at HQ2

The writer and mathematician who played Winnie Cooper on “The Wonder Years” will be hosting a book reading for kids at a Pentagon City book fair this weekend.

Danica McKellar, who went on to become a New York Times bestselling author and internationally recognized mathematician following her role on the sitcom, will be reading from her math picture book, “Goodnight, Numbers,” at HQ2 from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

All kids who attend the book fair will leave with a free book, according to a flier. It’s hosted by Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the “Read, Virginia!” campaign and Elevate Early Education in collaboration with Amazon.

Other attractions at Metropolitan Park will include hands-on crafts and ice cream from Toby’s Ice Cream, plus Amazon’s free bananas. Amazon is also promising to unveil a yet-to-be-announced “special surprise.”

Though McKellar is best known as an actress, she is also a mathematician and co-author of a physics theorem that bears her name, the Chayes-McKellar-Winn Theorem.

In addition to “Goodnight, Numbers,” McKellar has several other picture books about numbers, plus books intended for middle school and high school readers, including “Math Doesn’t Suck,” “Hot X: Algebra Exposed!” and “Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape.”
