JUST IN: Il Radicchio reopening in Clarendon, replacing Mazaro

Il Radicchio, the longtime Italian restaurant, is coming back to life in Clarendon.

The family-owned restaurant, which closed on June 1 after more than three decades at 1801 Clarendon Blvd, has posted a notice announcing its arrival at the former home of Mazaro at 2909 Wilson Blvd.

Il Radicchio posted above the move on social media on June 15, indicating that it would be re-opening “very soon.”

“We’re excited to host you and bring back the same authentic flavors… plus some new dishes,” the restaurant wrote.

Il Radicchio describes itself as having “taken over the former Mazaro restaurant space,” but it’s unclear exactly when the other establishment closed. Mazaro, also an Italian restaurant, opened at 2909 Wilson Blvd in September 2020, replacing Alto Fumo.

Il Radicchio had always planned to relocate, rather than close for good. Known for its wood-fired pizzas, pasta and other Italian fare, which it has served since 1994, it closed its doors for a redevelopment project.

“This is not goodbye,” the restaurant wrote in late May. “We will be back soon in a new home, ready to continue serving the food and hospitality you know and love.”

Also on Il Radicchio’s former one-acre site were National Science Teacher Association and Rhodeside Grill, which closed in February.
