Santa Rosa Taqueria plans to open at former Seamore’s spot in Clarendon

A D.C.-based taqueria and margarita bar is planning to move into the former home of Seamore’s in Clarendon.

The Crossing Clarendon’s website lists Santa Rosa Taqueria as coming to 2815 Clarendon Blvd, where Seamore’s seafood restaurant closed in November.

It’s unclear when the restaurant plans to open. There don’t appear to be any pending liquor licenses at the address, although Santa Rosa’s Capitol Hill location has a wide selection of margaritas in varieties like limoncello, mojito, grapefruit spritz and piña colada.

The taqueria also serves up Mexican classics including burritos, quesadillas and a variety of street tacos, with fillings such as battered cod, braised baby portobellos, spicy chorizo, pork belly and barbacoa.

“With an emphasis on authentic Mexican food, we specialize in our century old mole sauce recipes and fresh guacamole,” the business’s website said. “We feature one of a kind freshly made margaritas with unique flavors.”

In D.C., the restaurant additionally offers beer and happy hour deals including two margaritas for $22. It’s a concept from Sunnyside Restaurant Group, the family-owned organization behind We, the Pizza, Good Stuff Eatery and bumblebirds.

The restaurant group’s executive chef, Evangelos Spiros “Spike” Mendelsohn, has appeared twice on “Top Chef.”
