County Board members are considering a contract to convert Kenmore Middle School’s athletic fields from grass to synthetic turf, among other improvements.
Set for approval as part of the Board’s consent agenda, the contract is slated to be awarded to the LandTek Group, the low bidder among four competitors.
The construction contract will total $8.12 million with a 10% contingency, adding up to $8.93 million. Overall, the renovation project is slated to cost $10.14 million.
The fields represent a portion of a 32-acre site shared between the county government and school system that includes Kenmore Middle and Carlin Springs Elementary schools.

The Arlington Soccer Foundation and Arlington Sports Foundation have pledged $1 million each, with Arlington Public Schools contributing $2.44 million. County officials expect user fees to cover another $1 million of the cost.
Improvements as part of the project include:
- Conversion of the natural grass of the existing field space to synthetic turf, to accommodate multiple fields
- Replaced lighting
- Improved sports amenities
- New seating, walkways, Americans with Disabilities accessibility and stormwater management
- Improved landscaping
- Improved access along 2nd Street S.
Construction is expected to take approximately a year.
The item is part of the meeting’s consent agenda, but could be pulled off for discussion at the July 21 meeting at the request of any Board member.
