Roger Paul Morie, age 72, a long-time resident of Arlington, Va., passed away in Arlington on May 21, 2026. Roger will be remembered for his extraordinary kindness to others and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Born on September 5, 1953, in Lamar, Colo., Roger grew up near Denver in Westminster, Colo. He attended the University of Denver and graduated summa cum laude in 1975. Roger then attended law school at Columbia University, where he met the love of his life, Lynette Charboneau. Following their graduation in 1978, Roger and Lynette married and moved to Washington, D.C.
Roger spent the vast majority of his 40-year career in federal government as an attorney at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). He worked in matters of enforcement at FERC, investigating and trying violations of energy law and regulations governing natural gas pipelines, hydroelectric projects, and electrical grid reliability. Starting in 2009, he served as the Senior Counsel for Electrical Reliability to the Director of Enforcement until his retirement in 2018.
Roger and Lynette moved from Washington to Arlington in 1986, where they raised their three sons. Lynette and their sons will remember Roger as the most kind, supportive, and devoted husband and father possible. Steadfast and selfless, he was always there to lend support to his family and friends. Roger enjoyed hiking and camping, especially in his native Colorado, where he and the family frequently traveled to visit grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. Roger also was a life-long lover of music and singing.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Lynette Charboneau, and their three sons Paul Morie (Erin), Joseph Morie Charboneau, and Thomas Morie (Grace), along with his siblings Alvin Morie Jr. (Mildred), Alice Sawyer (Lance), and Michelle Morie-Bebel (James). Roger was preceded in death by his parents Alvin Morie Sr. and Grace Morie Enders, his stepfather Richard Enders, and his brother Mitchell Morie.
A funeral service followed by a reception will be held at Foundry United Methodist Church, 1500 16th Street NW, Washington, D.C., on Thursday, July 23rd at 10 a.m. For anyone wishing to honor Roger’s memory, the family suggests donations to the Columbia University School of Law in lieu of flowers.
