Suspect denied bond for alleged stabbing of Ballston towing company employee

Two men remain behind bars after allegedly throwing rocks at a Ballston towing business and then stabbing an employee who confronted them.

Edison Mendez Hernandez, 19, was denied bond at a hearing in Arlington Circuit Court today (Tuesday), according to court records. Yuvin Silverio Sis Tista, 20, was also ordered to remain in custody after a hearing in Arlington County General District Court on Friday.

Police were called to the scene around 8:10 p.m. on Oct. 14 after the suspects were seen throwing rocks at Advanced Towing at N. Quincy Street and 5th Road North, according to a criminal complaint.

Police say that an employee confronted the men, and they started throwing rocks at him. Sis Tista then allegedly started punching the employee. When the man fell to the ground, the complaint says that Mendez Hernandez held him down while Sis Tista pulled out a box cutter and stabbed him twice.

The incident was captured on security footage, according to the complaint.

The victim, who is identified as an employee of the towing company, was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects fled the scene on foot, but were soon captured by police. The arresting officer noted that Sis Tista’s “breath smelled strongly of an odor of an alcoholic beverage” and “he was unsteady on his feet” and slurred his words.

Sis Tista was charged with felony malicious wounding by mob, misdemeanor assault and battery and misdemeanor profane swearing.  Mendez Hernandez is charged with felony abduction by force and felony conspiracy to commit malicious wounding by mob.

The men are scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 10.
