UPDATED: Victim wounded by knife-wielding suspect outside of middle school

Arlington County police are investigating a robbery and stabbing outside of Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. Friday behind the school at 125 S. Old Glebe Road.

Initial reports suggest that an approximately 25-year-old man slashed or stabbed a male victim in the abdomen with a pocket knife, before fleeing in the direction of Route 50 with stolen cash and jewelry.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and, according to police, is being taken to a local hospital.

Police were still searching for the suspect, as of 11:45 a.m., with the assistance of the Fairfax County police helicopter.

On Monday, ACPD said in a crime report (below) that the investigation into the incident — now described as an armed robbery and stabbing — is continuing. The suspect remains at large.

ROBBERY, 2024-05310148, 100 block of S. Old Glebe Road. At approximately 11:02 a.m. on May 31, police were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined the male victim was walking in the area when the male suspect approached, stole his jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash and stabbed the victim with a knife before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Responding officers established a perimeter and the area was searched with the assistance of a police helicopter. The suspect was not located. The suspect is described as a Black male in his mid-20’s, approximately 5’10” tall, wearing a black hoodie and blue jeans. The investigation is ongoing.
