Wakefield, Yorktown gymnasts place among top four in region

Anya Clemmer of the Yorktown Patriots and Madeleine Wearing of the Wakefield Warriors were the standouts from Arlington teams at the girls 6D North Region gymnastics championships.

Clemmer finished third in the all-around competition with a 36.825 score and Wearing was right behind in fourth (36.425).

Clemmer finished third on the balance beam (9.625) and vault (9.325), she was fourth on the uneven bars (8.925) and had an eighth-place (8.95) floor-exercise routine.

Wearing won the floor (9.7), was sixth on the beam (9.3), seventh on the bars (8.675) and tied for ninth on the vault (9.1).

In the team standings, Washington-Liberty, which hosted the competition, finished fifth with a season-high 135.525 score. The Chantilly Chargers won with a 141.450 total. Washington-Liberty had multiple gymnasts participating.

Melissa Ramon Lau tied for 13th on the vault (8.7), scored an 8.85 on the floor, an 8.775 on the beam and 7.25 on the bars. Jori Willford was 10th on the floor (8.825), had an 8.675 on the beam, an 8.625 on the vault and 8.375 on the bars. Jordan Henke had an 8.525 on the beam and 8.25 on the floor.

Lulu Ax scored 8.6 on the vault, 8.55 on the bars and 8.025 on the beam.

Also for W-L, Elina Hossenikhani had an 8.675 on the vault for her highest score. Laura Houlihan had an 8.675 on the vault and 8.3 on the bars, and Alice Aramendia scored a 7.6 on the floor.

Wakefield’s other gymnast in the region was Sophia Cordon. She finished seventh on the beam (9.275) and 15th on the floor (8.55).
