Leftover Halloween candy will let customers borrow toys for free at Falls Church business

A Falls Church “toy library” will let customers borrow some toys free of charge in exchange for donations of leftover candy following Halloween.

The Toy Nest is collecting unopened candy as part of its annual candy buyback program, which loans out games, puzzles and more in exchange for sugary treats. The buyback program runs for a week, beginning the day after Halloween this Saturday.

Donations accepted at 125 N. Washington Street

  • The Toy Nest will take donations during hours of operation from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • The library is offering “one point of toys,” equivalent to a $15-$20 value, per pound of candy donated. Participants are limited to five pounds of donated candy per kid.
  • Donors can choose between nearly 1,900 toys to borrow, including games, Legos, puzzles and ride-on vehicles. The program also offers vouchers for future toy borrowing.

Candy will go to local public servants

  • The Toy Nest plans to donate this year’s candy to Falls Church’s trash collectors and operations employees at the Department of Public Works.
  • Toy Nest members can keep borrowed toys for two weeks, while non-members can keep them for one week.
  • Last year, the buyback program collected nearly 300 pounds of candy.
