Police: Man arrested for bomb threat at Yorktown High School was responding to political post

A 19-year-old from the Richmond area has been accused of making a bomb threat against Yorktown High School in September.

Alexander Blake Berg was arrested last month and charged with two felonies over the September threat, which didn’t close the school but did result in an increased police presence on campus.

Berg, of Henrico County, allegedly made the threat on social media in response to a post from the Arlington GOP, which noted that Yorktown did not lower its flag to half mast “for either the observance of the anniversary of 9/11 or the political assassination of Charlie Kirk.”

“I am going to bomb this school ok,” Berg wrote on X, according to a criminal complaint.

Berg also allegedly admitted to making posts targeting two schools in Loudoun County, stating “he was ‘bored’ and knew it was a felony,” according to the criminal complaint.

His X account has since been suspended for violating the platform’s rules.

Arlington GOP chair Matthew Hurtt did not respond to a request for comment.

Members of the Arlington County Police Department responded to Yorktown around 3 a.m. on Sept. 18 to investigate the threat, which was determined to be non-credible. Classes at the school began without delay later that morning, though a noticeably increased police presence was placed “out of an abundance of caution.”

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority,” principal Kevin Clark wrote in an email to families at the time.

Berg faces two felony charges in Arlington: one count for making a bomb threat, and another for threatening death on school property. He faces the same charges in Loudoun County.

Berg is scheduled to appear Dec. 12 for a preliminary hearing in Arlington’s general district court. There, a judge will determine if there is probable cause to send the case to a grand jury, which would consider whether to indict.

If convicted of those two charges, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison.
