Joyce Motors redevelopment gets underway in Clarendon

Demolition has begun at the Joyce Motors site in Clarendon, and another nearby project may be getting underway soon.

The home of the longtime auto shop at 3211 10th Street N. has been fenced off and demo work was in full swing today (Tuesday) as crews broke and hauled debris under a towering crane.

Plans call for preserving the historic Joyce Motors facade as a 241-unit building is constructed on the site.

The 11-story redevelopment project, which will include ground-floor retail space and nine on-site committed affordable units, was approved two years ago, in February 2023. Joyce Motors closed in October after 85 years.

Developer Orr Partners did not respond to a request for comment on the project’s expected timeline.

Meanwhile, another project at nearby 3200 Wilson Blvd could begin demolition later this year, a spokesperson for developer Mill Creek Residential told ARLnow.

This project at the current home of Clarendon 54, Arlington Beer Garden, a mosque and some office space along Wilson Blvd had stalled after receiving County Board approval in September 2023, but gained fresh momentum when Mill Creek took over the project last year. A definitive timeline for that project is not yet available.
