ACPD: Alexandria man charged for “unprovoked” attack on officers this morning in Clarendon

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting two Arlington police officers without provocation early this morning (Friday).

Quinton Berry, an Alexandria resident, was “bloody and agitated” when he allegedly approached two officers whose police vehicle was stopped at a traffic light in Clarendon around 3 a.m., the Arlington County Police Department said in a press release.

He reportedly opened the driver’s side door and “began assaulting the officer” before fleeing on foot, pursued by the officer in the passenger’s seat.

The officer allegedly chased Berry from Wilson Blvd and N. Irving Street to N. Irving Street and 12th Street N. — at which point, police said, Berry turned around “ran towards the officer, knocking him to the ground.”

During an ensuing struggle, Berry reportedly tried to take control of the officer’s Taser, but was successfully taken into custody with assistance from other arriving officers.

“Both officers sustained minor injuries and were assessed by medics on scene,” the press release says.

Berry has been charged with two counts of assault on police, two counts of obstruction of justice, one count of attempting to disarm an officer and one count of vehicle tampering. He is being held without bond.
